Thamar University holds qualifiers for contestants in the annual English language competition

■ As a part of the Al-Aqsa Flood events, Thamar University held today the final qualifiers of the cultural competition in the field of English with the participation of students of the Faculties of Education, Arts, and Dentistry.
In his speech, the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, expressed the need of the academic community to translate his cultural works to spread his message to the whole world.
He called on the attendees to direct their literary and cultural creations in English in order to support Palestine, face the challenges faced by Al-Aqsa, support Yemen in the face of the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people and resist the American aggression against the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen.
He stressed the need to take responsibility in conveying the message of society and the homeland to the world in all its languages.
From his part, Prof. Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, said that the competition is an important event that took a long time to prepare relying on English literature students to achieve the highest scientific ranks.
He added that the competition is being held for the first time in the Republic of Yemen under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the contestants will be filtered at Thamar university, so that the winners qualify for the University competition at other Yemeni Universities in Sana'a.
He expressed his hope that the students of Thamar University will achieve victory in the Grand National Competition in Sana'a where they used to achieve first places in most competitions.
Dr. Al-Rifai also expressed his hope to reformulate the school curricula and courses in English to conform to the Arab-Islamic culture and authentic Islam and be an additional source to educate the community and students and improve the level of national and Islamic awareness.
He pointed out that the current school curricula are a burden on Arab culture and do not contribute to its development, therefore, reformulating them and including content parallel to our Arab culture is necessary and indispensable, especially in light of the challenges and aggression that Arabism and Islam are facing from various hostile parties.
From his part, Dr. Essam Wasel, the Head of the Library Department, confirmed that the scientific competition in the English language is intended for students specializing in English at the Faculties of Arts and Education in the third and fourth year.
The competition was attended by the Vice-Rector of the University for Higher Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Abdulkarim Zabibah, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Dumaini, the Consultant of the Rector of the University for Cultural Affairs, Mr. Hassan Al-Mawshki, and Vice-Dean of the Institute of Continuing Education, Dr. Salah Al-Qawsi, the Director of the English Language Center Dr. Amin Al-Jamal, the General Secartary of the College of Medical Sciences, Mr. Mohammed Al-Badawi, and a number of Professors of literature and languages at Thamar University.
